Who We Are
Dayspring Fellowship is a Reformed Baptist Church, named for Luke 1:78, where
the coming of Jesus Christ into the world is described as a sunrise ( a "dayspring")
from on high, "to give light to those who sit in darkness and the
shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace."
We are an independent church, Reformed in theology, continuing the teachings
of the Protestant Reformation; and Baptist in practice, administering the
sacrament of baptism to believers only. The church is overseen by a
plurality of elders, and a group of deacons ministers works of service to the
congregation. While a convenient summary of our beliefs may be found in
the First London Baptist Confession of 1646, our ultimate authority in all
matters of faith and practice is the Bible, the inspired, infallible, and
inerrant Word of God.
The steady, faithful exposition of that Word, verse by verse, chapter by
chapter, has been at the center of our worship since the church gathered in
1978. We have found in Scripture the pattern of receiving the Lord's
Supper weekly, the exhortation to sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs,
and the command to pray for one another and for our world. All these
things we do joyfully, and the combination of these Biblical features has our
church unique. At one and the same time we stress the sovereignty of God and the responsibility of the believer to live for His glory. We believe God is the one who draws people to Jesus Christ, gives them new hearts, and grants them repentance; but we also believe our duty is to evangelize and share our faith by word and deed to our families, our neighbors, and our world. We support and encourage missionaries at home and abroad, to the end that people might know Jesus as Lord and that God's grace might be magnified. |
